Antioch's Community
The Village of Antioch's roots dates back to 1836, when Darius B. Gage, Thomas Q. Gage, and Thomas Warner made the first claims of government. The first house was constructed on the north side of Sequoit Creek, with homes following shortly after on Loon Lake. The year 1839 brought a sawmill built by Hiram Buttrick, with the intention of providing the area with lumber for steamboats, locomotive furnaces, log homes, and split-rail fencing.
Today, the Village of Antioch has grown to a population of over 15,000. It has many industries, retail and service businesses, churches, schools, organizations, and neighborhoods.
Experience Today's Antioch
Located midway between Chicago and Milwaukee, we have the best of all worlds and an area for businesses and community to grow and prosper. There is an abundance of lakes, including the well-known Chain O'Lakes, for fishing, boating, or just plain relaxing. There are several parks dotting the town to rest and let the kids play. Golf courses are a great way to be spent with business associates or friends. Quality schools educate our children and create a solid base on which our business community can grow.
Specialty shops, a community theater, our Heritage Museum, plus artists shops, and antique shops are a treat for your cultural side. Great restaurants to appease whatever your appetite line the entire downtown area and beyond. Antioch is home to an annual Public Art Program each year, which brings the artistic talent and our business community together to create uniquely designed Dickens Characters through the months of November and December. Visit our Public Art Program, Dickens Holiday Village, and learn more about the Dickens Era as you enjoy our handcrafted characters. Dickens plays an important part in our range of magical holiday festivities.
New industrial parks and retail expansion are also being planned, as well as new housing, and a new community park in our downtown. Antioch is the northern start for the new Metra system, which makes commuting to all areas convenient. Antioch is close to the expressways, yet far enough to enjoy and experience tranquility.
